Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, Nottinghamshire

Masterplan Notebook

In the heyday of Lottery funding, when new visitor centres were the order of the day, we designed a new visitor centre for the iconic Sherwood Forest with Atelier Ten and Wilkinson Eyre. Somehow the purity of the original design got lost in translation, though the Wilkinson Eyre ideas were rather good.  The diagram on the left shows the Roots, Trunk and Canopy idea - creating a high level lookout in a modern Great Oak - a new building.  The ground plane then allowed for the development of  camp inspired flexible buildings for retail, food and visitor services.

These are the design development graphics and the Masterplan layout drawings.
